Welcome to The Matlock Bath Parish Council Website

The parish of Matlock Bath extends along the west side of the River Derwent from Masson Mills in the south to the Junction of St Johns Road in the north. The A6 is the main artery of the village and follows the line of the river closely. On the opposite side to the river, the byways of Matlock Bath climb up the hillside. It has been given the nickname ‘Little Switzerland’. The village has always attracted tourism (see our history page) and close to the A6, all the trappings of the tourist trade are prominent. However, behind this façade lies a diverse community. It is the role of the Parish Council to represent the interests of all the people who live and work in Matlock Bath.

The Parish Council is the bottom tier of local government – closest to the people it serves. It is responsible for the following provisions: Sports Area, Wapping Nature Reserve, maintenance of bus shelters and the war memorial, Christmas tree and lights and the floral displays. We organise various village activities including Carol Singing by the Christmas tree, a Pro Loco Art Competition, Pro Loco Photography Competition, Remembrance Service, Seniors Lunch and activities during the illuminations. We provide grants to local organisations and in the past granted money to the boat builders, the raft event, Street Party, Bowling Club, Pre-School Playgroup and the childrens Christmas party.

We also lobby on behalf of the parishioners to other levels of local government (the District and County Councils), the police and other outside agencies. We help promote other community services such as transport (buses and trains) and the library service. We communicate with the parishioners using this website and a quarterly newsletter.

We hope you find our website useful. If you have any comments, suggestions or feedback on any aspect of it or our work, please contact us here.
