Welcome to The Matlock Bath Parish Council WebsiteThe parish of Matlock Bath extends along the west side of the River Derwent from Masson Mills in the south to the Junction of St Johns Road in the north. The A6 is the main artery of the village and follows the line of the river closely. On the opposite side to the river, the byways of Matlock Bath climb up the hillside. It has been given the nickname ‘Little Switzerland’. The village has always attracted tourism (see our history page) and close to the A6, all the trappings of the tourist trade are prominent. However, behind this façade lies a diverse community. It is the role of the Parish Council to represent the interests of all the people who live and work in Matlock Bath.
The Parish Council is the bottom tier of local government – closest to the people it serves. It is responsible for the following provisions: Community Centre, Sports Area, Wapping Nature Reserve, allotments, maintenance of bus shelters and the war memorial, Christmas tree and lights and the floral displays. We organise various village activities including Carol Singing by the Christmas tree, a Pro Loco Art Competition, Pro Loco Photography Competition, Remembrance Service and activities during the illuminations. We provide grants to local organisations and in the past granted money to the boat builders, the raft event, flower festival and the childrens Christmas party.
