Jubilee Bridge

Many of you will have seen that work has begun to restore Jubilee Bridge. The iconic bridge is at long last being brought back to its former glory.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is ensuring the bridge is made structurally sound for the future whilst returning it to the way it was in 1887 when it was opened to celebrate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

All metalwork has been blast cleaned and defective metal re-plated. The entire bridge has been repainted.

Prior to the renovation, a local historian, Rosemary Thacker, contacted the Parish Council enclosing a copy of a newspaper article of when the bridge was first opened. The article revealed that the bridge was originally painted in four colours - warm stone, blueish grey, deep chocolate and golden yellow. The Parish Council passed the letter and article to Derbyshire Dales who agreed to investigate the possibility of recreating these colours.

DDDC is extremely grateful to Rosemary Thacker in helping to ensure that the restoration has been as authentic as possible.

The bridge has been completed with colour changing spot lights on the bridge which highlight the beauty of it. I am sure everyone agrees the bridge looks magnificent.
