In 2016 the Parish Council submitted an application to Peak LEADER, through Derbyshire County Council, Peak LEADER supported projects to address various priorities – in our case to support and boost rural tourism.
The LEADER scheme was part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). Money from the programme was given to Local Action Groups (LAGs) so that they could award grants locally to businesses and organisations that apply for it.
The Parish Council was awarded a grant of £21,738 for winter lighting, two new fingerposts and 4 map lecterns. More information relating to the winter lighting can be found under Our Village.
The two new fingerposts are located at Memorial Gardens and at Jubilee Bridge. The lecterns are located in the two main car parks – Station Car Park and Temple Road Car Park with the remaining two at either end of the village on the A6 – adjacent to Memorial Gardens and Pavilion Car Park. The lecterns have proved extremely useful for visitors. The map for the lecterns was subsequently utilised for the map booklet produced from the Welcome Back Funding.
The Parish Council is extremely grateful to the EAFRD, Derbyshire County Council and all those who helped us achieve the outcomes we have.
