  • Parking

At last week’s Parish Council meeting, Councillors discussed the issues of parking and noise on the Parades following the weekend of 21st and 22nd March. The following was reported to the meeting: *Vehicles, mostly motorbikes parked on the pavement on the Riverside blocking access for pedestrians. *Excessive and deliberate noise from mostly motorbikes. We understand that this was an activity orchestrated via social media. *Motorbikes deliberately blocking in parked cars so they could not be moved resulting in the issue of a parking ticket for the car – not the motorbikes. *Parking enforcers being threatened by groups of bikers resulting in the non-ticketing of illegally parked bikes. Co-ordinated action to rectify the situation needs to be taken by Derbyshire County Council – both parking enforcement and highways, Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Dales District Council. All three have been contacted asking for a joint meeting. We have also contacted our MP John Whitby to help facilitate this meeting as over the years we have been ‘fobbed off’ with excuses and the passing of responsibility to others. The situation as it was on 22nd March was not acceptable to residents, visitors or businesses and cannot be allowed to be repeated. The Parish Council will do all that we can to ensure that all agencies face up to their responsibilities and do all that they can to rectify the situation as soon as possible. We will provide updates when we have some news.
